Peter Elson’s 1981 cover for Arthur C. Clarke’s Of Time and Stars is a great example of the space helmet reflection’s visual economy, as it elegantly gets both a face and the scene it’s watching onto a cover.

NASA concept artist Rick Guidice’s scene of a space settlement in an astronaut’s helmet is one of the most beautiful helmet reflections from this era. NASA might have agreed, since they used it as the cover for a 1977 design study.

Bob Eggleton put a unique spin on the space helmet reflection motif with his 1988 cover for Pitfall, by Thomas Wylde. Most artists put the focus on the helmet-wearer, but this one gives us a li’l fella looking in the mirror.
